Abstract:
Online language instruction presents many challenges, not the least of
which is the development of students' reading comprehension skills. However,
through the creative combination of the latest multimedia tools and centuries-old
legends, language instruction online comes to life! Through the use of
PowerPoint and Impatica, McHenry County College has created a series of
multimedia legends that are based on ancient Latin America culture. Students
can view the text of the legend online, listen to the legend being read
by a native speaker and simultaneously view graphics that provide clues
to the meaning of the text. Students can then interact with the legend,
answering comprehension-based questions and completing grammar activities
while immediately receiving feedback.
