Abstract: Taking advantage of the latest modeling and simulation technologies, the Defense Language Institute and the Naval Postgraduate School have teamed up with industry experts in 3D animation to provide students with a life-like virtual scenario experience using humanoid avatars. This demonstration provides insight on newly emerging technologies and presents a fascinating look at how language, culture and non-verbal communication can be taught in a distributed learning model. Participants will view and experience selected virtual scenarios created for this project and provide feedback to the presenters on the perceived reality of the scenarios and effectiveness in reaching stated performance objectives.
