Teaching Russian Grammar through Flash Animation (45 min.)
Friday, March 26th
10:30 a.m.
Bldg. 46/103

Tatiana Hursky, Defense Language Institute
John Warren Randall, Independent Presenter

Abstract: Students of Russian language often experience difficulty learning Motion Verbs. One of the drawbacks of using textbook illustrations is that illustrations are static images, making it difficult for the student to visualize the entire scope of the motion.
During the first part of this presentation, limitations of traditional approaches to teaching motion verbs will be discussed. Next, advantages of supplementing lessons with Flash animation to teach Motion Verbs will be covered. This will be followed by a sample lesson, using Flash animation.

Constructing lessons, utilizing Flash animation can help students visualize these concepts. The sample lesson plan will demonstrate how simple Flash animation may be used to help teach students the following five verbs of motion: to walk, to drive, to run, to swim and to fly.
