Recording and Preparing Audio Materials for Classroom Use – Technology Serving New Ideas (45 min.)
Thursday, March 25th
4:15 p.m.
Bldg. 45/103

Tamas GK Marius, Defense Language Institute

Abstract: This presentation will give you guidelines for PC-based audio recordings of classroom materials. From finding the right software and hardware to adjusting levels and using sound processing to enhance the quality of your recordings, you will have a chance to see and learn how this process is performed. The presentation will deal with finding the right microphone, cables, digital interface and recording software and the actual process of the recording. Information will be provided on how to put together your budget studio for creating audio materials for your classes. Ideas on how to prepare listening material with exercises will also be discussed together with recording audio from the Internet. A short Q&A segment will conclude this session where you can hopefully get all your audio-related questions answered by an audiophile language teacher with extensive background in teaching recording engineering as well.
Handouts will be provided.
