A Dictionary Wizard (45 min.)
Thursday, March 2th
10:45 a.m.
UC 115/116

Gearóid O'Neill, Ollscoil Luimnigh.

Abstract: Having a dictionary available on-line is very convenient. A good system requires very little active effort on the part of the learner to get the information displayed. However, the more the learner is an active participant, the better the likelihood of his or her learning the material.

The dictionary wizard is a system which helps the learner build a personal dictionary from an on-line dictionary. The learner selects the information required from the on-line dictionary and has it stored in the personal dictionary. Information available includes the meaning, the part of speech, inflected forms, pronunciation. As well as incorporating the information for the on-line dictionary, the learner can add notes, such as a sentence in which the word occurs.
