Abstract: Walk through the aisles of the local tech store or browse the vendors at the next education meeting and you'll see a plethora of language software. Why is this market mostly restricted to "ILL's" (Independent Language Learners)? Are we making progress if it still takes the same number of hours to earn a credit in a language class as it did 70 years ago? It may make us uncomfortable, but we need to examine the nexus of language learning needs and the needs of the global emerging economy. We can't let long-established language "teaching" needs dominate the learning market. It's time to take off the blinders and unstop your ears.
