Evaluating Web-Delivered Courseware: Plans and Strategies


Biographical Notes

Deniz Bilgin joined the Defense Language Institute as a Turkish Language Instructor in 1982. In 1987 he became a Training Specialist at the Educational Technology Division. In 1991 he was appointed a Supervisory Computer Specialist at the Directorate of Information Management. Following that assignment, he served as Chief of the Technology Integration Division between March 1995 and November 1999. He is currently Acting Director of the Evaluation Division and reports to the Dean of Evaluation and Standardization.

Mr. Bilgin holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of Georgia and an Associate of Science in Computer Information Systems from the Monterey Peninsula College.

Abstract

The Defense Language Institute has undertaken new initiatives in the design and production of web-delivered foreign language courseware in several languages. The procedures for the evaluation of these materials are currently also under development. This presentation will discuss some of the technical and linguistic considerations inherent to the evaluation of various types of web-delivered software.
