ESL Immigrant Adult Students Write Web Pages
Biographical Notes
Abstract
Demonstration: 45 min
In the fall of 1999 I started a project with two groups of adult, immigrant students at Reedley College located in the Central Valley of California. One of the groups was at the low-intermediate level of proficiency, and the other at the high level of proficiency. The first group simply researched and wrote about their heroes. The second group wrote a research report about the city where their keypals (e-mail pen pals) were from. All students illustrated their reports with photographs and/or graphics. In the presentation, I will explain the process of developing the web pages and show the final product which appears in the Readley College we site (www.rc.cc.ca.us)
Method of Presentation/Planned Activity:
Workshop with models provided.
Anticipated Benefit to Participants:
Participants will obtain ideas and some experience in developing web pages with their students. This workshop is not only appropriate for those of us who teach ESL students, but for all instructors.
