Biographical Notes

Ruth Luman: B.A. Intercultural Studies: Biola University
M.A. T.E.S.O.L (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages): Biola
University. Experience: For the past four years, she has taught ESL in the L.A. area,
Ethiopia, and Cambodia. She is currently an ESL Computer Laboratory
Instructor at Modesto Junior College.

Brenda Robert is Dean of Literature and Languages at Modesto Jr. College in Modesto, CA where she is responsible for the ESL program. Her bachelor's and master's degrees in English are from Kansas State University and her doctorate is from George Mason University. Her career in community college education includes teaching and administration at Montgomery College in suburban Washington, D.C. and at Anoka-Ramsey College in Minneapolis.

Abstract
Paper (30 minutes)

A non-credit ESL program at Modesto Junior College utilizes computer-assisted instruction and a multi-media lab (audio-tapes, videotapes, books, computer software) to support classroom instruction through close integration of daily lessons and lab activities. Classroom teachers and laboratory instructor and staff work together to coordinate instruction and lab activities to enhance land reinforce language learning. Presentation will cover philosophy, structure, and organization of the tow labs; coordination of technology with instruction; and innovative lab management strategies. Handouts will be available.
