Abstract
On-line instruction has become a reality at many campuses. Faced with lessmoney and more students, many administrators (and faculty) see the internet as a panacea for overcrowded classes. The reality, however, is that good on-line instruction demands the implementation of new paradigms of teachingand learning? and all of this takes an enormous expenditure of time, energy, and good will. This presentation will outline different stages in the integration of on-line features in intermediate and advanced French courses. By progressively implementing on-line instruction into traditional courses, the outcome can be a more positive one for students, faculty and administrators.
Proposed Target Language: Presentation to be given in English; examples
in French but applicable to all languages.
Anticipated Benefit to Participants: Participants will have a better understanding of ways in which to progressively integrate on-line features in a way that doesn't overtax faculty (or students). The presenter will also point out possible obstacles (such as testing venues, student resistance) that may need to be overcome in the transition from a traditional to an on-line environment in classes.
