Earl Brown, Ph.D., teaches and researches Spanish linguistics. He is currently working to increase the department's course offerings in linguistics. In Fall 2009, he created a new course: Introduction to Spanish Linguistics. His research interests center on language variation and change in Spanish, especially within the sound system of Spanish. In addition to current and future projects detailing phonetic and phonological variation in various dialects of Spanish, future interests include the creation of a body of interviews of Spanish spoken in Salinas, California for his own research as well as for the use of his students for class projects.
