You're invited to the next President's Speakers Series lecture in the World Theater at 7 p.m. on Jitner photoWednesday, February 22nd. The speaker will be Barbara Martinez Jitner, an award winning director and producer, she produced the Showtime millennium documentary “An American Tapestry” and Emmy nominated “American Family,” which made history as the first Latino family drama on broadcast television when it debuted on PBS in January 2002.

Her speech topic is on human rights based on “Femicide in Juarez: The Real Story of Bordertown." Barbara was the inspiration behind and the executive producer of the 2008 Jennifer Lopez film “Bordertown.” the film was based on her research of the Mexican town of Juarez, which is notorious for the murders of more than 400 women. Barbara posed as a factory worker on the U.S./Mexico border in order to uncover a world of grueling poverty and sexual abuse.

Also, there will be a special "For Students Only" Question and Answer session before her lecture. Students are encouraged to attend the special Q&A session with students on Wednesday, February 22 from 4-4:50 p.m. at the University Center.

Last, the World Theater will show the movie "Bordertown" the night before her speech, Tuesday, February 21, free at the World Theater at 7 p.m. Barbara has offered to introduce the movie.
