The Japanese American Experience by Mas Hashimoto
On behalf of, Kristy Ishii, a senior at Salinas High School, and the president of the Japanese
American Citizens League, Salinas Valley Chapter (Junior Group), WLC shares the following information:
This year there is a special presentation, Saturday, February 4, 2012, 2:00pm until 4:00pm, at the Buddhist Temple of Salinas,
14 California St, Salinas, CA 93901-2803, open to all interested, detailing the Japanese American experience in internment camps, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
The Jr. JACL officers ( Brian Amiya and Alanna Wright) and I will be hosting Mas Hashimoto, guest speaker from Watsonville, who volunteers his time lecturing to elementary students through the university level. He reaches out to over 3,000 students each year, and tells a moving story. We want to educate people about the incarceration of the Japanese Americans and the discrimination that was seldom heard about. The internment camp experience is a historical fact that is not "common knowledge" and we'd like to change that by spreading awareness about this hidden piece of America's past.
Please support us! Spread the word to families, friends, teachers, peers! It is FREE admission and there will be light refreshments/desserts served! You won't want to miss it!
**The presentation will be given in the GYM at the Buddhist Temple of Salinas
**If you are wondering, this is not only for Japanese Americans! That is only the title of the presentation, everyone is encouraged to attend! This presentation is about the negative effects of discrimination, and applies to all people!
