ENGLISH LEARNERS: ACCESSING THE COMMON CORE STANDARDS WORKSHOP AND KEYNOTE WITH DR. GEORGE BUNCH

Day 1, Saturday, November 3
Keynote: “Realizing Opportunities for English Learners to Meet the New Common Standards,” Dr. George Bunch
Followed by Workshop led by CSMP teacher leaders
Day 1 (afternoon) Participants will:
- Reflect on instructional shifts called for by the new common standards
- Experience and discuss learning activities designed to exemplify such shifts
- Explore how a focus on text complexity can be both rigorous and well scaffolded for ELs
Day 2, Saturday, December 1 Classroom application and reflection
Day 2 Participants will:
- Determine student outcomes based on the Common Core standards
- Identify cognitive tasks to support student success
- Plan strategies to structure language practice
